It’s Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS) time! Australia’s biggest garden event, the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS), kicks off next Wednesday March 29th and runs till Sunday 2nd April. - by Roger Fox It all takes place in Melbourne’s beautiful Carlton Gardens and the adjacent Royal Exhibition Building, and this year’s show promises to be an immersion of all the senses: expect stunning show gardens, spectacular floral installations, workshops, talks, food, entertainment, thousands of plants for sale and, as always, the captivating scent of thousands of blooms. What’s on in 2017 A fantastic line-up of local landscaping talent will compete for garden design glory this year. They include Charlie Albone (Chelsea Flower Show medallist last year), Phillip Withers Landscape Design, Cycas Landscape Design, Candeo Design and many others. And following its success last year, Gardens by Twilight is back, offering a chance to stroll through the exhibits at dusk on Friday 31 March with a glass of sparkling in hand. There will also be seminars from gardening and floristry experts, over 150 exhibitors and retailers, a landscape advisory centre, interactive workshops and heirloom vegetable tasting courtesy of The Diggers Club. As always, the Royal Exhibition Building will be overflowing with flower displays produced by Australia’s leading floral artists, and there’ll also be a Retail Flower Market selling bouquets of fresh blooms direct from Australian growers.
